About us
Our Goal & Approach
IRCC encourages its all members to share a few academic convictions and methods as follows:
First,
IRCC focuses in particular on the formation of civic values and virtues, which underlie the composition of civil society, and the
influence of religious factors on the process in which these values and virtues are linked to civic engagement and action.
The research projects conducted so far by IRCC reflect this purpose and direction.
Second,
IRCC looks reflexively at the topic of "religious diversity" in East Asian societies(Global East), which have different cultural background from Western civilization.
In addition, it will analyze the issues of socio-cultural change and transformation inseparably
related to it, leading to provide a reflexive alternative.
Third,
IRCC intends to contribute academically and practically to the founding spirit and philosophy of Kyung Hee University, the "creation of civilized world" and "promotion of world peace."
In the global crisis situation where the urgent need for ecological civilization transformation becomes more urgent than ever, IRCC's research activities will provide universal rationale and practical validity for challenges of our time such as religious civil liberties, religious (spiritual)-based ecological movements, religious pacifism, and so on.
Fourthly,
IRCC aims to provide professional training to students majoring in humanities and social sciences to imagine and explore innovative contents by laying the foundation for convergent research in cultural and religious subjects as a basic area of humanities and social sciences.
Accordingly, it will contribute to fostering creative manpower in the religious and cultural industries by allowing them to actively participate in domestic and global research projects related to IRCC research.
Finally,
The IRCC plays a key role as the headquarter office of the East Asian Society for the Scientific Study of Religion(EASSSR:www.easssr.org).
One of the important factors leading to the founding of the EASSSR was an insight that the multidimensional meaning of East Asian religions(spiritualities) should be understood in terms of the context of East Asia, away from Anglo- European centrism. As a key research institute reflecting this kind of background factor, IRCC will function as a HUB for the academic network of numerous research institutions and societies around the world.
